On October 12, 1928, the Shochiku Gakugekibu was established in Tokyo as the theatrical division of the prominent film and theater company Shochiku. It later evolved into the Shochiku Revue Company, producing musical performances that blended Western styles with Japanese sensibilities. The troupe showcased elaborate stage designs, synchronized dance numbers, and a focus on female performance roles. It contributed to popularizing revue-style entertainment in Japan and competed with the famed Takarazuka Revue.
