国・地域: 世界

2013年のこの日、国連総会は初となる核軍縮に関するハイレベル会合を開催し、以降2018年までに同会合を招集することを決定した。スタニスラフ・ペトロフによる核戦争回避事件に由来。

International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons promotes global awareness for abolishing nuclear weapons and commemorates the UN's first high-level disarmament meeting in 2013.
Recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2013, the day marks the first UN high-level meeting on nuclear disarmament held in 2013. It honors Stanislav Petrov, whose actions in 1983 prevented a potential nuclear crisis. The observance aims to educate the public about the threats posed by nuclear arsenals and the need for disarmament. Governments, civil society groups, and individuals are encouraged to support initiatives toward a nuclear-weapons-free world. Annual events include seminars, conferences, and awareness campaigns highlighting disarmament progress and challenges. The day reinforces global commitment to peace, security, and the long-term goal of eliminating nuclear weapons.
