Godai Tomoatsu (1836–1885) was a Japanese industrialist and entrepreneur from Kagoshima.
He traveled to Europe in 1867 to study modern industry and commerce, bringing back valuable insights.
Upon his return, he led development of Osaka’s port, railways, and infrastructure, boosting regional trade.
He founded the Osaka Stock Exchange and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce to support merchant interests.
His vision and leadership helped transform Osaka into a major commercial hub in Meiji Japan.
He also served as an envoy to negotiate treaties, bridging Japan with Western powers.
