戦時新聞統合により福岡日日新聞と九州日報が合併し「西日本新聞」創刊。
In 1942, the Fukuoka Nichinichi Shimbun and the Kyushu Nippo merged under wartime press consolidation to form the Nishinippon Shimbun.
Facing resource shortages and government directives during World War II, Japanese regional newspapers were forced to consolidate. On August 10, 1942, the Fukuoka Nichinichi Shimbun and the Kyushu Nippo combined operations and launched the Nishinippon Shimbun. This new newspaper served as the primary source of news for the entire Kyushu region, operating under strict wartime censorship. After the war, the Nishinippon Shimbun continued as an independent publication and remains one of Japan’s leading regional newspapers. Its formation illustrates the broader impact of the war on domestic media and information control.
