On July 9, 1958, a massive earthquake triggered a rockfall in Alaska’s Lituya Bay, generating a megatsunami. The wave reached an astonishing height of 524 meters, stripping vegetation from hillsides in its path. Witnesses aboard fishing boats recorded the event, providing unique photographic evidence. Though the remote area limited human casualties, two fishermen lost their lives in the harbour. The Lituya Bay megatsunami remains the tallest tsunami documented in modern history.
