ピトケアン島のバウンティ号の反乱者の子孫194人がノーフォーク島に移住。
In 1856, 194 descendants of Fletcher Christian and the HMS Bounty mutineers relocated from overcrowded Pitcairn Island to Norfolk Island in search of better living conditions.
By the mid-19th century, the small Pitcairn Island community, built by the Bounty mutineers and their Polynesian companions, faced severe overcrowding. On June 8, 1856, 194 men, women, and children embarked on a voyage to Norfolk Island, a former penal colony with richer soil and more space. Sponsored by the British government, the relocation aimed to ensure sustainable agriculture and community growth. Settlers founded new villages in Kingston and Cascade, preserving their unique heritage. This migration remains a fascinating chapter of maritime history, blending adventure, survival, and colonial expansion.
