French educator and inventor of the Braille system, the tactile writing method for the blind.
Born in 1809 in Coupvray, Louis Braille lost his sight at a young age due to an accident. He enrolled at the Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles in Paris, where he excelled in studies. In 1824, at the age of 15, he developed a six-dot cell system that allowed blind individuals to read and write by touch. He refined this system over the years and taught it to students at the institute. Braille’s innovation revolutionized education for the visually impaired and became the foundation of modern braille alphabets used worldwide.
