Hawayo Takata was born in 1900 in Hawaii to Japanese immigrant parents. After learning Reiki in Japan under the guidance of Chujiro Hayashi, she returned to the United States to teach and practice the art of spiritual healing. Takata trained over twenty Reiki masters and established twelve Reiki centers across North America and Brazil. Her efforts were instrumental in introducing Reiki to Western practitioners and popularizing holistic wellness approaches. She wrote letters and manuals that shaped the practice’s curriculum for decades. Takata died in 1980, but her teachings continue to influence the global Reiki community.
