Joseph Smith was an American visionary and the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1830, he published the Book of Mormon, which he translated from golden plates revealed to him. Smith led his followers through New York, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois, establishing new communities and places of worship. He introduced unique doctrines and organizational structures that define Mormon faith to this day. His charismatic leadership and theological innovations left an enduring mark on American religious history. Smith's life ended in 1844 when he was killed by an armed mob in Carthage, Illinois.
