Aleksandr Panayotov Aleksandrov (born 1951) is a retired Bulgarian cosmonaut who flew to the Mir space station as part of the Soviet Intercosmos program. He launched aboard Soyuz TM-5 on 7 June 1988, spending nearly a week conducting scientific experiments in microgravity. Aleksandrov’s work focused on biomedical research and Earth observation, contributing to international space science. Before his selection, he served as a pilot in the Bulgarian Air Force and trained extensively at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. After his mission, he held leadership roles in Bulgaria’s space research community and inspired a generation of Eastern European astronauts.
