André Glucksmann was born in 1937 in Boulogne, France, and studied philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure. He emerged as a prominent member of the 'New Philosophers' movement in the 1970s, challenging Marxist orthodoxy and critiquing ideologies of oppression. Glucksmann authored over 30 books, exploring topics from the Holocaust to the Yugoslav Wars, and advocated for human rights and interventionism. His eloquent writing and public intellectualism made him a defining voice in late-20th-century French thought. He also taught at universities and frequently contributed to newspapers and broadcasts. Glucksmann’s work left a lasting mark on contemporary philosophy until his death in 2015.
