Merieme Chadid is a Moroccan astronomer and explorer. She is the first Moroccan woman to conduct research in Antarctica.
Born in Casablanca, Merieme Chadid earned her doctorate in astronomy from the Paris Observatory. Her research focuses on star formation and the development of infrared telescopes in extreme environments. In 2004, she became the first Moroccan and North African woman to set foot on Antarctica for scientific work. Chadid led expeditions to install and maintain robotic observatories at Dome C, one of the coldest sites on Earth. She has received international awards for her contributions to astronomy and for promoting women in science. As a professor and keynote speaker, she inspires future generations of researchers in Morocco and beyond.
