International Day against Nuclear Tests

An annual UN-designated day promoting awareness of the need to end nuclear tests and protect the environment.
Established by the UN General Assembly in 2009, the International Day against Nuclear Tests is observed each year on August 29 to highlight the environmental, health, and humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapon test explosions. Governments, NGOs, and educational institutions worldwide hold seminars, exhibitions, and outreach campaigns to advocate for a comprehensive nuclear-test-ban. Events often feature survivor testimonies, scientific presentations on radiation impacts, and calls for accelerated entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. The day emphasizes the importance of global cooperation in preventing nuclear proliferation and safeguarding future generations. Public and diplomatic initiatives aim to strengthen support for policies that prohibit all nuclear tests.
