Edgar Evans was a Welsh naval petty officer and member of Captain Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova Expedition to the South Pole.
Born in 1876 in Barry, Wales, Edgar Evans joined the Royal Navy at a young age and quickly established himself as a capable sailor. He was selected for the Terra Nova Expedition in 1910 and contributed his experience and strength to the journey. During the return from the South Pole in early 1912, extreme conditions and frostbite took a severe toll on Evans. He became the first of Scott's party to succumb, dying on February 17, 1912. His tragic end highlights the perilous challenges faced by early Antarctic explorers.

Born in 1951, Jean-Marc Boivin rose to fame by setting speed records on iconic alpine peaks such as the Matterhorn and the Grandes Jorasses. He was the first person to descend a mountain via paraglider after a ski descent, combining skiing and flight in a single continuous run. Boivin also completed the first wingsuit flight off Mont Blanc in 1984. His fearless approach pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible in mountain sports. An accomplished pilot and parachutist, he logged hundreds of skydives and BASE jumps. Boivin's life tragically ended in 1990 during a wingsuit test, but his pioneering spirit continues to inspire adventurers worldwide.
