The start ofBlack History Month(United States andCanada)

Black History Month begins today in the United States and Canada, honoring the history and contributions of the African diaspora.
Originally begun as Negro History Week in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson and expanded to a month-long observance in 1976. Throughout February, educational institutions, museums, and community groups host events that highlight the achievements and stories of Black leaders, artists, and changemakers. The month promotes reflection on the legacies of resilience and creativity within the African diaspora. From historical exhibitions to film screenings and panel discussions, Black History Month offers a platform for dialogue and understanding. Participants are encouraged to learn, share personal narratives, and support initiatives that advance racial justice and equality.
